Last night I had the privilege of seeing Anna Larson play The Townsend, one of my favorite listening rooms in Austin.
Anna is an extremely talented local singer-songwriter who is also a member of local Austin bands The Wheelwrights and Those Poor Serfs. Her sound has been described as “Neko Case if she was a pianist rather than a guitarist.”
Last night Anna and her guitarist Daniel David were down a drummer, but added French Horn by another local talented musician, Jenni Wieland. Jenni also plays with the Minor Mishap Marching Band and has performed on Austin City Limits with Father John Misty. FJM was responsible for what I consider to be one of the best albums of 2018, God’s Favorite Customer.
In the course of her fantastic performance, Anna confided that her debut album release party will take place at the Townsend February 9th with another talented Austin band, The Sanco Loop, joining her!
I recognized Sasha K.A. and Friends as 3/5ths of American Dreamer, whose orchestral folk I’d enjoyed before when they played with The Wheelwrights and at The Music House.
Check out Anna’s next show on Thursday, December 13th at Hole in the Wall and American Dreamer at The Saxon Pub on December 1st for Guy Forsyth’s birthday.
